The ruling National Resistance Movement party Chairman President Yoweri Museveni has met and urged party members who defect following their disagreement with party structures that the cardinal role of the NRM is for mass mobilization, not to push away those in disagreement.

The President was Sunday evening holding a consultative meeting with NRM members from Kanungu District that comprised the NRM District officials, women and youths representatives, voluntary mobilizers’ ('Nyekundiire') groups, the clergy and the independents.

"The NRM role in society is to teach people the objectives of politics for good governance through mass mobilization not to send away members in disagreement. In fact, NRM uses the Biblical practice of the parable of the lost sheep, which was the most hunted. Or the prodigal son who was the most welcome home,” he said.

Other members at the meeting were youth leaders from Rubabo and Rujumbura Counties in Rukungiri District who paid a visit to the President at his countryside home in Rwakitura, Kiruhuura Dstrict. Kanungu District NRM Chairman, Godfrey Karabenda and opinion leader Donag Kananura, among others, also attended the meeting.

During the deliberations, Mr. Museveni reminded the group that it is not NRM's mode of work to doubt any member belonging to the party but that instead, there should be cohesion to create strong harmony for the party existence in all structures.

"The NRM has made indelible steps towards national security, political stability and infrastructure development. To backslide is unacceptable. For further political unity and advance, there is need to embark on fresh mass mobilization for more followers like it did during the bush war," he said.
The President said the party is working hard against sectarianism and disintegration among party members.

"A sectarian leader is an enemy to his own people even if that leader does it out of ignorance,” he said.

He castigated political leaders who are not mindful of political security, peace and stability, economic development but haggling for selfish interests.
"To understand permanent political solutions for the country, leaders should understand political influence to respond to peoples needs, how to handle issues and not to ask who is who for the country to move forward, he said.

The President assured the people of Kanungu District that government is committed to creating more development in the area including the construction of more feeder roads, putting electric fence on the buffer zone of the national park, tighten security on the border line with the DRC, among others.
About compensating tea nursery seedling operators for the tea seedlings that were supplied to the farmers but did not flourish because of the prolonged drought, the President said that there should be an audit of the suppliers to be compensated.

Kanungu District Chairperson, Godfrey Karabenda, commended the President for his tireless mobilization for the NRM party, which he said, eases the task of grassroots cadre mobilization.
