One person has been shot dead during protests down town Kampala following the arrest of the National Unity Platform-NUP Presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.
Kyagulanyi was arrested in Luuka district and is being held at Nalufenya. This forced hundreds of people to take to the streets in the Kampala Central Business District.
The NUP presidential candidate was arrested at a rally in Luuka by a team of police officers led by Frank Mwesigwa, the Zonal Commander overseeing elections in Busoga and Bukedi regions while addressing a mini-rally at Luuka district headquarters.
People lit tyres in the middle of roads at Kisekka Market, Nabugabbo Lane, Nasser Road, Nkrumah, City Square, Bombo Road, Kampala Road and outside town in places like Masanafu and in Nyendo Masaka.
Police and the anti-riot police, Military and Local Defence Units- LDUs fired teargas and live bullet to disperse the protesters leaving one woman dead and several people sustained injuries.
