There is a heavy security deployment on the roads heading to Kalangala where the National National Unity Platform (NUP) Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu is set to hold campaign meetings on Wednesday.
Prior to today’s visit, the NUP coordinator in Kalangala Rajab Ssemakula had a meeting with Police in Kalangala District and agreed on the campaign venues.
According to Ssemakula, they agreed that the candidate will campaign in Kyamuswa County at; Kacungwa in Mazinga Sub County, Kisaba in Kyamuswa Sub County, Namisoke in Bubeke Sub County and Misonzi in Bufumira Sub County.
Later, Kyagulanyi will hold his final campaign meeting of the day in Kalangala Town Council at Kaala Play Ground.
Kalangala DPC Benon Byamukama says security has allowed Kyagulanyi to campaign in the four venues on condition that they don’t flout the Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures- SOPs.
Kyagulanyi had on Sunday suspended his Campaigns following the accident that led to the death of his aide Francis Senteza Kalibala alias Frank and alleged shooting of Ashraf Kasirye of Ghetto Media in Busega and Masaka respectively.
On the fateful day, the NUP candidate was on his way to Lwengo district, to address his supporters.
This morning, Kyagulanyi lashed at the electoral commission for banning campaigns in districts they claim have high numbers of COVID-19 cases. However, he noted that President Yoweri Museveni is still visiting these areas and campaigning.
“Dictators and their lack of shame! Citing COVID19, Mr. Byabakama bannned campaigns in districts with highest number of voters and where we have loads and loads of support!
Yet Gen. Museveni campaigns in those districts daily under the guise of launching government projects. Paid supporters gather to cheer him under police and SFC protection. At the end of each campaign event, the same young people paid to cheer the despot start fighting over the money promised and not paid! The lack of shame baffles me.
Ugandans must see Museveni for who he is and send him packing. It is only a matter of days” Kyagulanyi says.
