Ntinda is famously known to be the home of the rich, learnt and corporate young men. More so, most University graduates would immediately think of living in Ntinda. The first time salary earners tried so hard to get rental houses in the nearby suburbs of Ntinda.

On a sad note, that beautiful Ntinda is the no more. It is a home of thugs, prostitutes, drugs, hooligans, all other sorts of devil worshipping acts.

Robbery is the order of the day. Cheap drugs have been planted in every corner of Ntinda and prostitutes line up in Ntinda streets as early as 6pm. Food vendors have also taken over Ntinda streets. We took our investigation to Ntinda streets and we were shocked by the way the once good looking place turned into a sinful place.

What went wrong?

Some old residents of Ntinda blame the government for not providing jobs to the youth.  The children from rich families are now grassing since their parents became broke due to hard economic times. They resorted to selling drugs and taking cheap alcohol.

In the process, Ntinda kept on attracting other thugs from different areas. Most residents in Ntinda have cars and property worth millions in their houses so thugs feel like they are attacking a virgin territory. This forced most people to leave Ntinda. Landlords were forced to cut the prices on their houses. It started losing its shape as it starting attracting people in the informal sector. Bar / small ‘Bufundas’ selling cheap alcohol started coming up. Thugs started hiding in those small bars as they looked for target place

Ntinda’s Current Life Style

When you reach Ntinda at 8pm, you’re welcomed by noise from bars. Koko bar’s music is always at the peak. Street vendors selling cheap cooked cassava and cooked hoovers(Kigere) occupy the main street of Ntinda. Staggering drunkards crossing the roads as prostitutes keep calling them for service.

You can hardly see a police officer or traffic officer at that time. They all retire early.

As you join the road down going to Kisasi, even on a Monday morning, prostitutes are all over trying to get customers. Under a tall building called Musana, there is a bar called America. That’s where the sons and daughters of the rich have lost their lives from.

America bar has a collection of disappointed rich kids who turned their frustration to alcohol and drugs. On the road that joins Ntinda from Bukoto; many people have been robbed clean in the jam. These robbers come in a group, one knocks on the driver’s seat while the other one is opening the other doors and picks out any valuable property he lands on then takes off. It happens daily in Ntinda...

Big Supermarkets Deserted

First time salary earners and newlyweds no longer crave to live in Ntinda. They have settled in other Kampala suburbs. Kiira and Najjera are now the areas to live. Ntinda has become that remote. They are only two shopping stores that have remained in Ntinda. Capital shoppers and Tuskys.

Even these big supermarkets are not well stocked. When we asked, we were informed that the number of clients reduced so they don’t stock a lot of products. At mid night, when one walks to Ntinda, you easily mistake if for Bwaise. It is purely remote.
