MTN Uganda on Tuesday 22nd August 2017 announced a contribution of 50 million Uganda shillings towards the annual Kampala City Festival.

The festival, now in its sixth edition, is organized by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). The theme this year is “Revel Diversity—celebrating who we are and the facets that uniquely depict our profusion of brilliant culture and social life.”

MTN Uganda’s Corporate Communications Manager Val Okecho, who delivered the contribution on behalf of the CEO MTN, Wim Vanhelleputte said, “MTN is a brand that continuously seeks opportunities to connect with our customers on a day to day basis. We view the Festival as a platform to achieve that and in unison, celebrate the diversity and uniqueness in culture, social life, allied business, and services that the city has to offer.’’

“At MTN, we recognize the great strides KCCA has made in making our city a better place to work in and this is visible in the recent infrastructural changes. It gives us great pleasure to continuously invest in various social services here ranging from education to sports and sanitation from proceeds of the recently held MTN Kampala International Marathons and our staff led 21 Days of Y’ello Care,” he added.

Unlike the previous editions, this year the Festival is a three-day extravaganza starting on Friday 6th October and ending on 8th October with a fun packed street carnival along the city’s main street. On Saturday 7th October the festival will have charity concert headlined by celebrated Tanzanian recording artist Diamond Platnumz at Kololo Independence Grounds. Several top Ugandan artists will join Diamond Platnumz on stage to thrill revellers. Proceeds from the concert will go towards supporting education facilities at Kampala Capital City Authority schools.

The KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi hailed MTN Uganda for always being responsive to KCCA’s call for support. Citing MTN’s recent Ugx 1.3Billion sponsorship of the City’s top flight football club KCCA FC, she encouraged MTN to continue partnering with KCCA in order to make the city a better place. Musisi also pointed out that the Kampala City Festival has since grown in value and attendance from 800,000 people during the first edition to over five million revellers at the last edition.

MTN Uganda will set up its tent outside its Kampala Road Service Centre opposite Bank of Uganda, where revelers will be entertained by top Ugandan artists and Deejay battles. Revellers will be able to interact with MTN staffers, learn and sign up for various MTN products and services and win exciting goodies.
