Belinda Nasasi, crowned the overall winner of the Miss Curvy pageant in 2019, has appealed to the public for help, citing a difficult life and the need for support.
Nasasi revealed that she did not gain any tangible benefits from the pageant and that the organisers failed to deliver the vehicle they had promised.
"I took photos with the car, and they told me I would receive it the following morning, but they never gave it to me. I am living hand to mouth. I wash my neighbour's clothes but need a washing machine because the work is exhausting. Handwashing, lifting, and drying clothes is backbreaking. If someone could help me buy a washing machine or a dryer, it would be very helpful," she said during an interview with a local television station.
The pageant, which faced heavy criticism from women's rights groups for allegedly sexualising women, has not been held again since its 2019 debut.
