Facebook and Instagram experienced outages for a few hours overnight after introducing a change “that affected our configuration systems,” a spokesman said this morning.
“This is not the result of a third party attack,” the spokesman said. “We moved quickly to fix the problem, and both services are back to 100% for everyone.”
Facebook and Instagram are experiencing what are reported to be global outages. The cause and the potential duration were unclear this morning, when the outages were reported at about 1 a.m. Eastern Time.
In a statement, a Facebook spokesman said the company “was aware that many people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”
