Six people have been confirmed dead after an ambulance they were in had a head on collision with a truck Reg. No. UAJ 971U belonging to E-Plus Engineering Services.
A government ambulance Registration Number UG 3396M was rushing an expecting mother indentified as Teddy Amalo to Soroti Regional Referal Hospital for delivery crashed into the hind of a bore hole drilling truck.
Other victims include Amalo’s baby, her husband Emmanuel Eceru, Abdul Wambede, the driver of the ambulance, Jennifer Anyabo, a nurse and Kevin Iwatu and Josephine Acen, both attendants.
The East Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, Juma Hassan Nyene, says the truck wasn't visible on the road due to lack of rear lights.
A member of the bereaved family says Amalo developed Labour pains early in the day and was rushed to Atirir health center IV, before being referred to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for better management of her case.
