Parliament’s Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises has questioned the requisite qualifications of the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda National Airlines Company.
This comes a day after the Uganda Airlines CEO, Jenifer Bamuturaki was put on the spot for enormous paychecks at the institution, with her position earning 87m shillings per month.
Bamuturaki and other officials reappeared on Wednesday for grilling over irregularities at the institution.
The queries include losses amounting to over UGX 160 billion shillings, lack of job grades, strategic plan, poor management of contract files, and failure to seek approval from the National Information Technology Authority Uganda(NITA-U) for procurement of IT software among others.
The Committee Chairperson, Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi tasked to present her Curriculum Vitae to the Committee, which indicated Bamuturaki was less qualified by the time she was appointed to the slot.
According to the job description, applicants were required to hold a bachelor’s degree in any field, post-graduate training in Administration or any other business-related course, and at least 10 years of aviation experience at a senior management level.
Bamuturaki however holds a Bachelor of Arts (honors) in Social Works and Social Administration – SWASA which she obtained from Makerere University in 1993, and does not have any postgraduate training.
She has however enrolled for a Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership and a Master of Business Administration at the Graduate College of London.
She also holds 12 years of experience in the Hotel and Hospitality Industry where she worked as a Guest Relations Officer and Sales Manager before joining East African Airlines and Air Uganda which have all since collapsed.
The committee tasked the Acting Human Resource Officer Jane Nanono to explain why they considered a person who lacked the prerequisites for the job, but Nanono declined to divulge details.
Bamuturaki was appointed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on July 8.
