Earlier this month, reports emerged indicating that Alex Luwemba Luswa was being sponsored by Mathias Mpunga and members of the Democratic Alliance to contest for the Member of Parliament position in Kawempe North.
Following his announcement and confirmation that he will be contesting for the position independently, Luwemba has also denied any connection with Mpunga's group.
He explained that they have no connection and that he last spoke with Mathias Mpunga during the burial of Muhammad Ssegirinya in Masaka.
Luwemba says his candidacy is sponsored by the constituents of Kawempe North and friends of the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, who believe he can accomplish his work.
"I have no connection with Hon. Mathias Mpuuga in any way, and he is not the one sponsoring me, as per the allegations. I last saw him during Ssegirinya's burial in Masaka. That's propaganda being spread by my opponents and critics, but it is not the truth. I am contesting based on the people of Kawempe and our friends who believe I can accomplish the things started by my late brother," he explained during an interview with Sanyuka Television.
Alex Luswa Luwemba, also known as Muhammad, believes he will beat the other contenders in the race, including NUP's Elias Nalukoola, NRM's Farida Nambi, and FDC's Kalifah Aganaga, among others.
