Shame has befallen UPDF veterans in Budaka district after one of their own, identified as 75 - year-old Francis Cherikat, a resident of Naigobya village in Budaka Town Council was arrested in a foiled robbery at Budaka districts headquarters.
The Budaka District Police Commander Michael Ongica says they received a tip off that some unknown people had broken into the district offices at around 10pm.
However, the officers were blocked at the gate by Francis Cherikat, a security guard of Budaka district headquarters, until they forced their way into the building.
Cherikat at this point took off towards the district offices and informed the suspects of the police presence.
Ongica told the press that; ''When we reached at the gate this guard denied us entry insisting that no one was there but when we forced ourselves in, he ran to the offices alerting the suspects to escape.”
Suspects fled the scene amid gunfire but Police managed to recover a shoe and foot prints of the trio.
According to Ongica they suspect that Cherikat had connived to break the finance offices and the district store, and the veteran soldier faces charges of theft, connivance and negligence of duty.
