The police in Luweero has in custody two of its own officers for alleged negligence of duty after a suspected notorious motorcycle thief escaped from custody.
The Criminal Intelligence Officer Geoffrey Mayega and Cell Guard Constable Joseph Luswata all attached at Kasana Police Station in Luweero town council were arrested on orders of Ahmed Musakana, the Luweero District Police Commander.
Sam Kabenge a suspected robber escaped from the cells of Kasana Police Station last night following his arrest after he was found in possession of a motorcycle registration number UE0 913A Bajaj Boxer stolen from Kenneth Kiramba a resident of Galuweero zone in Luweero town.
Kabenge allegedly hit the victim with an iron bar before robbing his motorcycle.
The suspect would later be arrested on 31st December 2019 on charges of aggravated robbery and has since been under detention at Kasana Police Station until Wednesday when he escaped under unclear circumstances.
A resident of Bukuuma zone in Luweero town, Kabenge has severally been accused of being part of group of robbers that terrorizes motorists in the area.
The victim accuses the officers of negligence of duty and vows to ensure they are punished over the crime.
