According to William Komakech the Kitgum Resident District Commissioner, Opira had been admitted at the hospital on Monday due to mental illness.

Policre in Laser district is investigating the death of Qunito Opira the LCI Chairperson of Parakaka village, Latanya Sub County in Pader district who was reportedly shot at around 6 pm Thursday evening in Kitgum municipality by security guards manning St Joseph’s Hospital Kitgum.

According to William Komakech the Kitgum Resident District Commissioner, Opira had been admitted at the hospital on Monday due to mental illness.

However, the deceased reportedly developed complication and started running around the hospital premises prompting the guards on duty to shoot him thinking he was aan intruder.

“The deceased reportedly started running around the hospital premises and heading towards the staffs’ quarter this evening while shouting Jesus, the devil is greater than you. The two guards on duty however responded by firing at Opira killing him instantly” Komakech narrates 

The two trigger happy guards attached to Centurian Security Ltd recklessly fired four shots at the deceased but only one bullet hit him on the chest, killing him instantly.

The duo has since been arrested and are currently being detained at Kitgum central police station pending investigation into the matter.
