The police in Arua Central Division have arrested Wamana Paul, a theatre Assistant in Arua Regional Referral Hospital on allegations of receiving a bribe and abuse of office.
The case was reported on 30th May 2022 at the hospital Police post by a relative of two years and three months old patient identified as Nabil Bashir who later died at the same facility.
The relative alleged that the suspect and his team demanded money from them before carrying out an operation on the deceased.
SP Angucia Josephine PRO West Nile Region says that when the police investigations started, it was established that Wamana received money from the relatives of the patient allegedly for buying drugs, which drugs were never bought.
The suspect would later send the money back to the deceased's relative.
“It was also established that the operation of the patient was delayed and he died. The suspect has been at large but was apprehended when he came back to the hospital yesterday and he is detained at Arua CPS,” says Angucia.
