Police in Kakumiro are holding a 28-year-old man for raping and murdering a woman.
The suspect Everisto Kisakye, a resident of Kyakachwende cell, Kakindo town council is accused of kidnapping the deceased at Kakindo Health center III where she was nursing her two children.
The deceased is Constance Kyasimiire, 38, a mother of six and a resident of Kiryabukurura village, Kikwaya Sub County.
Preliminary findings suggest that Kyasimire, on Tuesday took her two sick children to Kakindo Health center III where they were hospitalized after being diagnosed with malaria.
However, on Wednesday night at around 11p.m, Kyasimiire who was attending to her two sick children went missing mysteriously from the health facility.
This prompted Health officials to hunt for her after patients realized the two children were alone and crying helplessly.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says police were informed and Kyasimiire’s body was later found buried in a garden belonging to the suspect on Thursday evening.
He says the body had bruises on the neck and private parts, an indication that the deceased could have been raped before she was brutally murdered. He says they went ahead and conducted a search in the suspect’s house where they recovered the deceased’s clothes.
Hakisa adds that the suspect is currently being held at Kakumiro central police station on charges of murder.
Police are also looking for other suspects believed to have connived with Kisakye to commit the crime.
