Government Driver, Civilian Arrested for Staging Army Roadblocks for Robbery

Enanga has urged the public to give security agencies the benefit of doubt as they will be on top of the staged robberies. According to Enanga, the joint security team is making sure that every person arrested in regard to this crime is nothing else but a real culprit.

A government driver attached to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and a civilian have both been arrested for erecting illegal roadblocks and robbing the public.

Security forces netted the suspects using Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and a video secretly recorded by a victim.

The 19-year-old Civilian (names withheld) from Nabweru division, Nansana Municipality, and his accomplice are detained at Special Investigations Division(SID) in Kireka.

The duo was recorded stealing from victims at gunpoint while clad in army attire during a staged Military roadblock three weeks ago.

“This guy would park the vehicle at a distance of about a kilometer and would be alerted by his accomplices after robbing people at gunpoint. We have him because one of the victims recorded the vehicle number plate and we traced its movement using CCTVs,” a security source said.

Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, says both the driver and civilian resident have been arrested in the ongoing joint investigations and hunt for gangs behind staged robbery roadblocks. He says police are also hunting for whoever provided the uniforms used in these robberies.

Enanga, the joint security team including the Crime Intelligence, Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence, and Internal Security Organization are on the hunt for all perpetrators involved.

At least 33 incidents of armed robbery roadblocks have so far been reported in areas of Maya, Matugga, Migadde, Matugga-Kasangati stretch, Bombo-Kalule, Buloba, and Myanzi.
