Police in Luwero are yet to produce to court a violent 22-year-old woman, accused of physically torturing her two-year-old child.

The suspect Nabulime Dorothy, a resident of Busula “A” village, Wobulenzi was captured in a viral video last week, repeatedly beating her two-year-old daughter with a sandal while at home.

In the recorded clip, the victim is seen accidentally falling down from a basin and instead receiving a beating from her mother as she struggles to climb back. The mother continues to beat the child severely while forcing her to scrub herself and bathe.

This video stirred rage on social media prompting the police to react.

Fred Enanga the Uganda Police Spokesperson says the Directorate of CID in coordination with Luwero Police have charged to court, the mother of three, with Aggravated Torture.

He says Nabulime was subjected to a mental health check that turned out she was normal despite showing no sympathy, compassion, and love expected from a mother to her own child.

He adds that Nabulime has three children from three separate relationships. Her firstborn, aged 4 years, was born from her first relationship a one Kivumbi Christopher, the second born, 2 years -- the child seen in the viral clip -- from her second relationship with an unidentified man, while the third child is only four months and fathered by a one Male Isaac.

“We believe her anger towards her 2-year daughter, Gift, is transferred from the broken relationship with her father; simply because of the good treatment she accords her other two children.” Says Enanga

Enanga says the victim was medically examined and her injuries were classified as harm but suffered no internal grave injuries.

He adds that efforts are now in place by the Child and Family Protection Unit, to establish the true identity of her father and further explore the possibility of setting up the victim in a shelter home with better child welfare programs.

Police are also hunting for the stepfather of the victim whom Dorothy was staying with for further interrogation.
