Police at the CPS Kampala have arrested two suspects linked to a criminal gang that has been robbing people in taxis.

The duo identified as Shafick Kasita, the driver of Omni bus taxi registration number UBA913F and his conductor, Ismah Mulindwa, are believed to be part of a bigger group of thugs involved in Taxi robberies.

According to police, the thugs disguise themselves as passengers in taxis before robbing their victims' belongings, like mobile phones, ATM cards, money, jewelry, and bags.

The gang called  "Nwezamu" operates in areas of Busega, Namungoona, Bwaise, Kalerwe, and Kyebando up to Namboole stadium.

The duo was picked up in a joint security operation following a robbery attack on Hadijah Nasejje, a resident of Kireka in Kira Municipality in Wakiso district on July 01, 2022.

Nasejje was robbed in broad daylight along the Northern bypass while heading to work in Kisasi.

Nasejje reveals that on the day she was robbed, she sat in the passenger seat and before reaching the Kisasi flyover where she was meant to disembark from, the conductor opened the door from the outside with the intention of dropping her down.
