The lifeless body of five-year-old, Peter Dyogo, who is reported to have drowned in the River Nile on Tuesday afternoon has been recovered by Kiira Regional Fire and Rescue Services Department.

The minor's body was found trapped in the water Hyacinth in River Nile in Nalufenya A cell in Jinja City Southern division.

The minor, who has been a pupil at Jumbo kid's school was playing with his colleagues along the railway bridge on their way home when he slid off the lower parts of the bridge and drowned in the river prompting his colleagues to alert fishermen about the abnormality. However, since the minors fled without providing details about their colleagues, the fishermen didn’t take them seriously.

According to Paul Nyongesa a fisherman, school-going children normally play along the railway bridge whenever they are alone. However, no severe case has ever been reported in the area.

Nyongesa further notes that the railway bridge is dilapidated with weak metallic poles at its endings and since pupils prefer playing within those areas, parents should send them with caretakers or opt for the old bridge, which has standby military officers to deter related accidents.

The deceased's father, Dyogo Nantamu said that he had reported the untimely death of his son to the police and declined to divulge into details.

David Otabong the Kiira Central police commander says that they have commenced inquiries into the incident. The deceased's body is at Jinja regional referral hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
