Security forces have revealed the identities of two suspects behind the attack on police and soldiers on patrol in Kapeeka Town Council.

Fred Enanga, the Uganda police spokesperson identifies the suspects as Denis Ssekimpi, 50, a resident of Namusera in Wakiso and Tarsis Mulegera, a Burundian national.

The duo was gunned down on Saturday at 10:30 pm following a fire exchange with the UPDF patrol team they had attacked. During the attack, Pte Obed Tufeyo, attached to Namunkekela detachment was also killed.

Enanga says police have now launched inquiries into how the duo has been operating and if they are linked to other attacks on police stations and Gaddafi attacks.

“We are building on the identity of these two people to find out whether they belong to a domestic terror cell or they are violent acts."

Enanga says they are investigating whether the aim of this gang is social or political.

“The joint security agencies will aggressively pursue those who seek to engage in violent criminal activity or threaten to use violence force, violence or coercion in furtherance of their goals. We are also continuing to build on intelligence, especially on attacks in the Luweero area and the most recent attack in Kapeeka,” he said.

Enanga also says joint security forces will henceforth respond to any armed attacks with a shoot-to-kill.

According to Enanga, all joint security personnel including all territorial commanders RPCs, DPCs, commanders of police stations, police posts, detachments, and checkpoints will respond in a similar manner.

“All territorial commanders RPCs, DPCs, commanders of police stations, police posts, detachments, checkpoints to be prepared to respond to any form of violence that targets their personnel or facilities.” He says

This directive comes just as the UPDF spokesperson, Brig Felix Kulayigye said the UPDF will kill anyone found stealing guns or attacking security establishments.

Just last week, goons raided the Nakulabye police station in a foiled gun attack. One suspected criminal armed with an AK 47 gun tried to attack the police station at 4:00 am.

Prior to that, thugs on a numberless motorcycle attacked Kesington police post in Kyanja and fired gunshots at the window panes before fleeing the scene.

The previous week, assailants attacked a mini-checkpoint, one kilometer away from the main checkpoint to UPDF Gaddafi barracks in Jinja.
Earlier this month, armed assailants attacked Busiika Police station in Luweero district in an incident that happened at around 7pm and killed two officers before escaping with two guns.
