Police in Kamuli have arrested five thugs in connection to an attack and robbery of millions from the cashier at GM sugar weighbridge.
Several suspects including Kiirya Moses, Waibale Alex, Kiirya Malicana, Baliruno Adam and Ojole Painedo have been arrested to aid in investigations.
The incident happened on November 26, 2022, at around 11:30 PM at the GM Sugar weighbridge premises in Luzinga central 1 zone, Luzinga parish, Wankole Subcounty Kamuli district.
It is alleged that Kobil Goswami alias Hash, the cashier, was attacked at his home and shot several times before the money was taken.
According to ASP Kasadha Micheal, the Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson, the unidentified thugs first raided the residence of another staff called Moses Kirya and put him at gunpoint before ordering that he direct them to Goswami’s residence.
Kasadha says after approaching his residence, Goswami was shot on the left shoulder while the thugs demanded money. They later searched the house and managed to locate Shs.95 million, before they fled the scene.
Goswami was later rushed to the Nile international hospital in Jinja where he is currently receiving treatment.
Kasadha adds that the scene of the crime was visited by the DPC Kamuli, deputy CID, SOCO, and other detectives where exhibits of evidential value were recovered.
