Police in Jinja have arrested a housemaid accused of kidnapping and attempting to sell her boss' 3-year-old daughter for 3 million shillings.
The suspect, identified by authorities as Agnes Namugabo ran away with the minor on Friday from Budhumbuli West in Jinja City Northern division.
Police launched efforts to locate the errant maid but her phone was switched off and all her known relatives denied her.
According to the Kiira Regional police spokesperson, James Mubi, police used CCTV and GPS to track down the suspect.
Mubi says the minor was first witnessed in the company of two mysterious men in a commuter taxi. The suspicious-looking men fled the scene quickly.
He says the maid was arrested at Mailo-Mbili roundabout stage en route to Kidera town council in Buyende district while attempting to sell off the child.
Namugabo told police that she decided to steal the child because she was consistently mistreated and denied salary by her bosses.
She claims to have connived with people from her village to sell off the child in Kidera town as a form of revenge.
She was planning to escape to Serere district via Lake Kyoga after receiving 3 million shillings from the child buyer.
