Uganda will join the rest of the world to celebrate International Labour Day on Sunday 1st May 2016. The day is celebrated annually to recognize the dignity of labour and the important contribution that it makes towards the social, economic, and political development of the country.
Addressing the media in Kampala this morning, Suleiman Madada, the State minister for disability and elderly said this year’s national celebrations will be held at Dhuhaga Senior Secondary School play ground in Hoima Municipality, Hoima district under the theme; “Strengthening Uganda’s Competitiveness for Sustainable Jon Creation and Inclusive Growth.”
According to Minister Madada, the theme seeks to significantly improve specific competitiveness development indicators pertinent to job creation and inclusive growth.
He highlighted some achievements by government in the labour sub-sector as operationalisation of the industrial court, Labour advisory board, medical arbitration board, decent work country program II and many others.
“The decent work program II was launched in August 2013 and the implementation is on-going. The priorities of DWCP II are to improve industrial relations, productivity, and adherence to labour standards through strengthening of labour,” says Min. Madada
