UNEB is withholding results of 1886 candidates pending completion of investigations.

The development was announced by UNEB Executive secretary Daniel Nokrach Odongo, in relation to examination malpractice.

According Odongo, the examinations were conducted free of leakage, however, there were other forms of examination malpractices especially assistance given to candidates by third parties inside the examination rooms.

However, all candidates whose results have been withheld, Mr. Odongo says will be accorded a fair hearing by the UNEB security committee as required by law, and candidates who will be cleared will have their results released.

The minister of education this morning released the 2016 Primary leaving examinations results at the office of the Prime Minister. A total of 640,860 candidates registered for the Uneb exams last November.

63,400 passed in Division 1, 251,787 in Division 2, 129,252 in Division 3 while 96,650 are in grade 4, and 81,210 ungraded.

69 inmates also sat for PLE at Luzira upper prison, and of these, 2 passed in Division 1, 32 in Division 2 while three failed.

In comparison, boys outperformed girls with the failure rate at 5.3% for males and 7.7% female.

A total of 640,833 candidates from 12,391 centres. Of this number, 488,310 (76%) were Universal primary education beneficiaries, while only 152,657 (24%) of the candidates were private. Fort portal was the best performing district with 99.9% pass followed by Entebbe 99.3%, Ntungamo 99.2%, Rukungiri 99.1%, Jinj 98.6%, Kabale 98.5%, Masaka 98.4%, Mbarara 98.4%, Lira 98.1% and Masindi 98.1%.

In the bottom ten districts is serere at 24.2%, Namutumba 24.3%, Bulambuli 24.7%, Kyankwanzi 24.9|% and Iganga main 25.5% fail.

Meanwhile, Buyende registered 32.8% ungraded pupils making it number one of the ten districts that performed poorly.

The education and sports minister Janet Museveni has called upon parents in rural and urban areas to take up the responsibility to provide meals and care for their children, explaining that many young girls adopting education therefore doing away with early marriages & teenage pregnancies.

Overall, 2016 PLE result is better than that of 2015.
