Dancehall musician Nutty Neithan started his career with manager "Just Jose" of the defunct Supernova, a music label.

He quit in 2015 and signed with Humble Management, another recording company, and later Boom Bark Records.

With such experience with record labels, Nutty Neithan believes they are not good for artists as they are solely focused on profiting on their side, but not for the artist.

"Management companies underpay artists. They bring you a lawyer to make you feel like it's legitimate, yet they are playing you. They are just focused on profits for themselves, but not the artist," he partly explained in an interview with a local YouTuber.

Nutty Neithan urged Ugandan artists to always hire personal lawyers before entering contract talks with record labels.

He says these should be lawyers with an interest in intellectual property and entertainment law.

"I think Ugandan artists also have to change the way they see things. They need to hire lawyers themselves to be protected and look for the betterment of their brands, particularly those who practice intellectual property," he explained.
