International Natural Bodybuilding Association (INBA) Mr. Universe, Ivan Byekwaso's star continued to shine after he won the INBA Natural Bodybuilding World Cup in San Diego, California on Saturday.
After spending close to a month in San Diego training with renowned San Diego based natural bodybuilding coach, Gaspar Lorenzo at the World Gym in California, the 32-year-old was in great shape.
He beat 200 competitors from across the world to the World Cup held at the Harrahs Resort.
The Pemba Sports Africa sponsored, Byekwaso will now compete in the Natural Olympia due in Las Vegas on November 12-15 in high spirits after this win.
"God is great. It was not easy but God is always on my side; I won my category (short men 175cm), a gold medal and the overall trophy," Byekwaso who beat American and Australian competitors in the final said in a chat with the New Vision.
"I hope to do the same in the Natural Olympia so Ugandans should continue praying for me,"
"I was there last year and won bronze, and after training with an expert, I promise not to let Ugandans down; I only need your prayers; I no longer compete for positions but the championships and if I win, Uganda will have a chance of hosting the same championship in 2017 or 2018," Byekwaso said earlier as he left for the US.
This will be Byekwaso's second time at the Natural Olympia, having won a bronze at the event last year.
At the natural Olympia, he could be joined by International Natural Bodybuilding Association World Bodybuilding Championship, Mubarak Kizito and another local muscleman, Billy Ssetenda, pending acquisition of visas.
By end of last week, the two had not yet secured the visas and were praying they can get them early this week to be in time for the championships
