Kadongo Kamu singer and Kyengera Mayor Mathias Walukaga has criticized the recently approved copyright management system.
Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Walukaga revealed he does not have hope in the copyright law. He states that the management system was approved simply because the election year is approaching.
He explained that the government is using it as a tool to gain artists' support but nothing further.
"I don't have hope in that recently approved copyright system. It's just because the government is looking at the support of artists as we head to elections but nothing more useful," he explained.
Walukaga believes the government should be working to improve people's general standards of living and providing social services to the public.
The copyright management system was approved by the President over the weekend and it will register artists and their works, track music usage in bars and on media, specifically TVs and radios, and ensure that artists are paid for plays, ultimately ending music piracy.
