The Uganda police force has promised to step up the fight against corruption among its officers.

In the past Ugandans have complained of police officers robbing them of their hard earned money as bribes even when they are not in wrong, for fear of being arrested and prosecuted on fake charges.

This morning, AIGP Fred Yiga, promised that officers caught in any acts of corruption will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Officers have stooped too law to an extent of receiving bribes of as little as 2000 shillings especially from motorists caught in violation of different traffic regulations.

Now, AIGP Yiga says such behaviors will not be tolerated and sought the press’s help to identify such individuals.

“The police is well founded in its guidelines on conduct at discipline, and this is the foundation we are going to use to streamline behavior within the police force. We are not going to allow a situation where police officers use our time, our uniform, our space, our everything to top up their income. That will not be acceptable” said Yiga.

Yiga was this morning addressing the police weekly press briefing at Naguru police headquarters in Kampala.
