World vision Uganda is today celebrating its 30th anniversary of changing children’s lives in different regions of the country.

Speaking to the media during the celebrations at golf course hotel in Kampala this morning, the chairman board at world vision, Dr. Fred Muhumuza said the organization started in Luweero in the aftermath of the bush war before moving to other parts of the country.

Dr. Muhumuza indicates that after Luweero they moved to Rakai which had been hit by the HIV scourge at the time, they would later take their services to Northern Uganda because of the LRA war, and later to Eastern Uganda in the soroti area and West Nile.

He observes; “World is a child focused Christian organization to serve children. We work with families, communities and we go to the vulnerable communities.”

World Vision Uganda started in 1986 to offer relief and resettlement packages and to help reconstruct districts in central Uganda ravaged by the 1981-1986 war. Development work was added on with the initiation of Community Development Projects (CDPs) in central, southern, western and West Nile regions between 1987 and 1995.

Over 128,633 registered children benefit from World Vision Uganda’s work.  World Vision Uganda is able to provide educational support, construct and equip schools and health centres, train health workers and farmers, participate in advocacy campaigns, distribute improved crop varieties and animal breeds, and provide clean and safe water.

Dr. Muhumuza says the organization is one of the largest institutions in the country, presently with an investment of up to $70m per year in a number of areas.

“We have investments in the health sector, agriculture, education, and local industry. At 30 years, World Vision Uganda operates in over 70 districts, employs 730 staff, spent $848m in the last 30 years, 4 key focus areas - Health, education, Household Resilience and livelihood and child protection.”

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah is the chief guest at the ongoing event.
