Police have vowed to continue enforcing the abortion law which entails criminalising health workers or any other party player who aides abortion in Uganda.

Polices response follows the pressure which has been mounted on them by the ministry of health officials and civil society organisations warning them against arresting heath workers who offer treatment to the abortion victims

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga noted that until the parliament relaxes the abortion law that is currently under play, the police are to continue making their arrests until the vice is brought to zero level.

With this kind of pronouncement in regard to the law, it means that the police that men who help their girlfriends to abort will also face the same consequences since they will play aides as per the law to facilitate abortion.

Fred Enanga also reported an increment in the number of cases related to abortion citing that for the last 6months, police registered over 365 cases, 1600 recorded in 2014 and 1800 were recorded last year.

The acting Director general of health services Prof. Anthony Mbonye said that as they advocate for the passing of the safe abortion law by the parliament , young people need to abstain or use condoms or contraceptives to avoid such instances of unwanted pregnancy.
