An investigation has been launched in Bundibugyo district after a vehicle with government number plates was turned into a passenger service vehicle (taxi).
The vehicle, a double cabin registration number UG 0792 B belonging to the Electoral commission (EC) was on Monday cited carrying and dropping passengers at different stages along Fort Portal--Bundibugyo road, leaving the public surprised.
The vehicle was being driven by a yet to be identified driver and the DPC Bundibugyo Mr Martin Tukahebwa explains that a police case has been opened at Bundibugyo Central Police station and statements from witnesses taken.
Bundibugyo District Registrar, Mr Daniel Nayebare say he was in Kampala with his deputy but had left the car parked at the office.
The district Chief administrative officer, Mr Stephen Olaya when contacted declined to comment on the issue.
Government vehicles have been cited carrying charcoal, garbage, doing commuter taxi works and many other weird things instead of doing government designated work.
