The Uganda national focal point (NFP), a body under Ministry of Internal Affairs in charge of issuing small arms and light weapons has called upon the public to come forward with any information in relation to the shooting of a one Kenneth Akena on Saturday.
According to a statement released today by CP Okello Makmot the Coordinator NFP this afternoon, much as it is legally provided that small arms can be issued to civilians for justifiable reasons, the body remains concerned with their use by those licensed to possess one.
CP Okello condemned the unfortunate incident. “The shooting of Kenneth Akena on the night of Saturday 12th November, is a very unfortunate incident that we all de-cry and condemn in the strongest terms possible.”
He explains that the body has so far heard two versions of stories concerning the shooting that some suspects have been arrested and are helping police with investigations. He however says there is need for more information in order to clarify on the issue.
“We would like to call upon the general public to help the police in this investigation by bringing forth any information that will help bring the true culprits to book.”
The statement adds; “We at the NFP are also very keen on identifying the weapon that was used in the shooting. The public is accordingly urged to help the police in their investigations to recover the exhibit firearm. This would help to answer the questions of the true ownership and the legality status of the same.”
