Chairman of the committee on commissions, statutory authorities and state enterprises, COSASE Hon. Abdu Katuntu has confirmed that over 1 Billion shillings that had been paid out to some Chinese Company has been recovered.
Addressing the media at an ongoing presser at Parliament, Katuntu explained that the money had been paid for alleged late issuance of a certificate of environmental impact assessment by the national environment authority NEMA.
According to the committee chairman, NEMA confirmed that the certificate was issued in the stipulated timeframe and there was no need for such a hefty payment.
He however says this was a bogus claim but the Uganda National Roads Authority, UNRA officials acted in a reckless manner and paid it.
“We shall hold them accountable” he added.
Hon. Katuntu says they will review business contracts of companies that deal with government and those in dishonest dealing will be blacklisted.
The chairman also displayed copies of instructions from the Secretary to Treasury & that from Stanbic Bank on the transfer of the recovered shs1 billion.
