The Buganda kingdom Lukiiko (Parliament) is sitting this morning to eulogise the fallen former katikkiro Jeosh Mayanja Nkangi who passed at the beginning of this week.
Mayanja Nkangi succumbed to Pneumonia on Monday morning at Nakasero hospital where he had been receiving treatment.
The initial program received by the family had indicated that his body would lie at Bulange Mengo where the Lukiiko members would pay their respects, but the current kingdom premier explained that this was impossible as it is against the culture and norms of Buganda Kingdom.
It was later agreed by the two parties, the family and kingdom that the Lukiiko sits today without his body.
Yesterday a service was held at All Saints Church Nakasero to pray for his soul. Several speakers described the former minister as a man of integrity who was selfless throughout his service in government.
Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has praised former Katikkiro Jehoash Mayanja Nkangi for standing with the family when Sir Edward Mutesa II was in exile.
In his message read out by Kabaka's sister Nnalinya Sarah Kagere to the hundreds of mourners at Namirembe Cathedral, Kabaka Mutebi expressed sadness over the death of Nkangi noting how the deceased began struggling and serving the kingdom 59 years ago. The Kabaka described Nkangi as a person who has exhibited hard work, humbleness, patience and respect for all people in his service over the years. Kabaka Mutebi appealed to his subjects to pick an example from the late Nkangi's transparency and service.
