Hundreds of mourners have flocked Rubaga Cathedral for a requiem Mass of slain police spokesperson, AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi. The Assistant Inspector General of Police Kaweesi was shot by unknown gunmen as he left his home in Kulambiro, a suburb of Kampala on Friday morning.
He was killed alongside his driver Godfrey Mambewa and bodyguard Kenneth Erau. Police and other security agencies have embarked on a hunt for killers who were reportedly using a motorcycle. Hundreds of mourners on Sunday turned up at St Andrews Catholic Church in Ntinda to pray for Kaweesi, before they were given a chance to view his body for the final time.
Throughout the night, a vigil was held at his home in Kulambiro, where president Museveni mourned the late. Today, more prayers are being held for a man described as a devoted Catholic.
Main celebrant Archbishop Kizito Lwanga remembered the time AIGP Kaweesi took the 1st reading when the Pope came to Uganda. The Archbishop says this surprised members of the Pope's entourage.
He added that the entire country was shocked and saddened by the murder of a dear friend Kaweesi. He explained that the quality of life is much more important than the number of years lived.
“Murder is against the 10 commandments of God. Life is a precious gift from God, nobody wishes for death” he warned.
Archbishop called for crime preventers to do their job. "We have crime preventers, am I right? Then it's high time they started doing what they are supposed to do; to prevent crime" he said.
The Mass is being attended by a section of political leaders including first Prime Minister Gen. Moses Ali, NRM Secretary Gen. Kasule Lumumba, former Ethics minister Miria Matembe and chief Justice Bart Katureebe among others.
