The Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) has recognized Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) as the best employer of the year 2016/2017 in the recently concluded Employer of the Year Awards (EYA).

FUE is a national organization that was instituted to represent the interests of Ugandan employers in matters dealing with employment and people management. The Organisation in 2001 launched the EYA awards to identify and recognize employers in Uganda that have excelled in establishing best human resource management policies and practices.

UBL topped over 90 companies – Multinationals, Public and Private Sector companies; NGO’s and not for profit companies that were nominated for the employer of the year award.

Speaking at the award ceremony that was held at Kampala Serena Hotel, Uganda Breweries Human Resource Director Florence Bamwine said, “It is an honor and a privilege to get this Employer of year award. Winning this award is to us a validation of our human resource practice and confirmation that indeed our work is impactful and relevant.  It is an opportunity for us to benchmark our practices against others; showcase what we do at UBL as well as an opportunity for us to learn from others.”

This year’s awards theme was centered around HR Analytics and how businesses use data to derive business insights to inform decision-making.

Some of the practices that made UBL employer of the year include; the organization’s  active culture transformation program  that is based on a review of business performance, the people manager program which is based on the assessment of leadership versatility and  development of customized leadership development based on coaching, e-learning and classroom training as well as sales performance management – where every sales person is measured on specific KPI’s of how many outlets are visited per day; strike rate; coverage; distribution and market share.

“UBL has an amazing people manager program that ensures everyone at the brewery has an Amazing employee experience. We have internal promotions and a vibrant talent management program that has seen us have 80% of our vacancies filled internally,” Bamwine added noting that UBL also has a Spirited Women’s network that ensures that women who are the minority are supported to grow and develop within the business.
