Police in Rukungiri is investigating circumstances under which eight people were electrocuted and two died on spot.
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, the unfortunate incident happened on Wednesday 20/12/17 at around 15:00 hours at Kakihanga village Rwakinungura parish Buyanja s/c in the home of late Major Godwin when they were constructing tents in preparation for burial arrangements.
“Two people died on spot and six others injured. The dead are; Nawulira Alex 52 years of Kakinga cell and Rwabwera Ambrose 31 years of Kishonga upper cell Rubanga parish both of Buyanja s/c” Maate said.
The six victims who were rushed to Nyakibare hospital are; Monday Reagan, Bakutana Robert, Katera Davis, Banyendera Domiano, Tukamushaba Ronald and Muhangi Johnson. Four of the six were immediately discharged after treatment and two are still admitted.
They are said to have been shocked when the metal of the tent they were putting up touched the electric wires of about 14.8ft from the ground.
Maate says Postmortem has been done and inquiries continue.
