The government of South Sudan has contracted Uganda Police to supply them with up to 20,000 pairs of uniforms for their forces.
The deal, sealed between the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martin Okoth Ochola and the head of the South Sudan National Police Service Majak Akec Mayok, indicates that up to 15,000 green Uniforms and 5,000 camouflage uniforms will be supplied by the Uganda Police Garment factory.
The uniforms will be in a design and fashion similar to the Uganda Police uniform, and each set will be supplied at a cost of USD 32 (118,000 Shillings), slightly higher than the USD 24 (88,000 Shillings), at which the Uganda Police Uniforms are sold locally.
Meanwhile, a sample of two batches will initially be sent to South Sudan for approval, after which a deposit of 50 percent of the costs will be made to Exodus Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited Uganda, the Police Force's institutional SACCO, account, which is managing the garment factory.
"Uganda Police garment factory will produce 20,000 pairs of uniforms for South Sudan National Police services," the Director of Interpol and Internal relations Fred Yiga said on Thursday.
The entire deal is worth 2.3 billion Shillings.
"We signed a Memorandum of Understanding four years ago for Uganda police to supply uniforms but due to unavoidable circumstances, we could not have the uniforms," the head of the South Sudan National Police Service Majak Akec Mayok said.
