The ministry of health has carried out vaccination against Ebola on 640 health workers in the districts of Ntoroko and Kasese.

The exercise started two weeks ago in the two districts following an outbreak in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC, where more than 755 people are estimated to have been affected by the disease and over 100 died.

According to Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the Health Ministry Spokesperson, the immunization process has been smooth and is still ongoing in different parts of Kasese.

107 people were vaccinated in Ntoroko district and 524 in Kasese district as of November 17, 2018, Ainebyoona says, adding that the vaccination exercise will start in Bundibugyo district next week and that a total of 3,000 health workers will be vaccinated in the country

They are being given vaccine-rVSV-ZEBOV which is the first highly effective Ebola vaccine that has been created also been used in West Africa and recently in DRC.

However, Uganda is the first country in the world, where the vaccine is being used without the presence on an outbreak.
