President Yoweri Museveni has commended the contribution made by participants of the Presidential Investment Round Table (PIRT) towards the planning and economic development of Uganda.
Addressing the 6th Round of the PIRT at State house on Thursday, the president said the overall aim of the Presidential Investor's Roundtable (PIRT) is to improve Uganda's competitiveness in the world economy. 'This is a very useful forum where we interface and get free consultancy that inject energy in an otherwise laid-back way of doing thing" he said.
Mr. Museveni added that by the end of their engagement, they resolved on a number of issues but highlighted three and these are;
The cost of electricity for manufacturing that is currently at 8cents per unit will be reduced to 5cents for big, medium and small enterprises, the need to make new and cost friendly means for cargo despite having an improved road network. He says this means the biggest pusher will be the railway and water transport.
And he finally notes that they are taking steps to reduce cost of money (interest rates) and cost of internet for people in manufacturing, agriculture and some elements of services.
