Police in Natete has in custody a woman identified as Nantege Esther for kidnapping self and attempting to steal from her family.

Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson told a press briefing at Naguru this morning that Nantege left her home on Thursday 28th February going for prayers at Pastor Kakande’s church.

However, the desperate woman would later call family members asking them to deposit 600,000 shillings on her phone as ransom, claiming she had been kidnapped by three women who were threatening to kill her.

Out of panic, the family deposited 500,000 shillings on her number and reported to police. Police would later arrest Nantege who had used 50,000 shillings and 450,000 was still on her phone.

“She claims she needed this money for capital. We are going to charge her with demanding money by menaces. We want to send a warning to those people out there even if it is within the family or relationship find other lawful means of making money instead of using such tricks like this” Enanga said.

He warns that since the murder of Susan Magara in February 2018, kidnap has become one of the most serious cases in the country.
