The minister of Works and Transport Hon. Monica Azuba Ntege has this afternoon unveiled the first Board of Directors of Uganda Airlines. The minister said that the Interim Board led by Eng. Gad Gasatura worked tirelessly to reach where the Airline is.
She then called upon the new Board to build on this and ensure good supervision to deliver on the Business Plan for the National Airline.
The seven member Board of Directors of Uganda Airlines is led by Chairman Ahabwe Godfrey Pereza the former Rubanda East MP and Minister of local government, Benon Kajuna representing Ministry of Works, Godfrey Ssemugooma Ministry of Finance, Catherine Asinde Poran, Rehema N.Mutazindwa, Charles Hamya and Stephen Aziku Zua
During inauguration, the minister said Uganda is becoming one of the best destinations and the growth rate in the tourism sector is very high.
“Thus, the need for interconnectivity within the region, and one keyway to do this is by having a full-fledged national Airline. The aviation sector is a very sensitive, sophisticated and expensive industry. Its customers attach a lot of importance on the value of time and quality of service. Likewise, Ugandans have high expectations for their National Airline” she said.
She prayed that the enthusiasm that fueled the establishment of the National Airline will accompany its work throughout the years to come and its success will make a substantial contribution to the development of our country Uganda and the EAC region as a whole.
“As Government, we will continue to support and provide enabling environment for the growth of the Aviation industry in the country given its contribution to economic growth and development. The implementation of these interventions will result into exponential growth in Uganda`s air traffic & provide more opportunities to Ugandans. Therefore, I would like to implore Uganda Airlines to take advantage of these interventions in the Sector and leverage its performance” the minister said.
Hon Azuba later handed over the instruments of power to the new Board Chairman Hon Godfrey Ahabwe Pereza.
