Kadaga, Bobi Wine Mourn Former Kawempe South MP Med Kaggwa

A moment of silence was observed by members of parliament in honor of the former Uganda Human Rights Commission Chairman Med Kaggwa who succumbed to Hypertension on Wednesday morning.

A moment of silence was observed by members of parliament in honor of the former Uganda Human Rights Commission Chairman Med Kaggwa who succumbed to Hypertension on Wednesday morning.

Kaggwa was found unconscious in his vehicle at Mulago Roundabout by a good Samaritan who rushed him to Case Clinic, where he was pronounced dead.
During this afternoon’s plenary session chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, the house observed a moment of silence to remember him. Speaker Kadaga said that Kaggwa served in distinguished capacities.

“He was a member of parliament representing Kawempe South and at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). He also served as minister for Presidency” Kadaga said.

Adding that “On my own behalf and that of the Parliamentary Commission, I convey our sincere condolences to the family of the late Hon Kaggwa, relatives, friends and the country at large on this loss.” 

Kyadondo East MP Hon Robert Kyagulanyi also mourned Mr Kaggwa, explaining that during the August 2018 Arua debacle, he visited him in detention and told the world what had happened.

“Very saddened by the passing of Hon Med Kaggwa, Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission. During the Arua ordeal, Med visited me in military detention and told the world what was going on. He did his bed, under very difficult circumstances to promote rights. rest well” Kyagulanyi wrote.

Hon Abbas Agaba the Kitagwenda County MP described Kaggwa as a respectable lawyer doing a very difficult job, adding that he had done his best to balance between excesses of government and ensuring that people enjoy their rights.

He is survived by a widow and five children. He will be laid to rest in Mpigi tomorrow Thursday.
