Residents and Police in the Albertine region have launched a search for the body of an employee of China Chongqing international construction company limited- CICO who drowned in river Waiga on the Hoima -Biiso -Wanseko road in Buliisa district. 

The company, CICO was contracted by the government to tarmac the Hoima-Biiso Wanseko road and it is alleged that a one John Byaruhanga 22 a casual labourer at the CICO Company drowned and died in the river on Wednesday.

According to Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, the deceased was constructing the new Waiga Bridge together with his fellow workers when he accidentally slid and fell in the speedy running water that eventually swept him away. 

His colleagues say all attempts to rescue Byaruhanga were in vain. Marine police together with the company workers and area residents have sinve launched the search for his body.

Residents say that last week the river burst its bank paralyzing transport on the Hoima-Biiso wanseko road for close to three days.
