The Uganda Police officers in Kasangati have arrested Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, the Kyandondo East Member of parliament other People Power leaders ahead of their planned consultative meeting in Gayaza in Wakiso district.
Police picked up Bobi Wine, Asuman Basalirwa, the Bugiri Municipality Member of parliament, Latif Ssebagala, the Kawempe North MP, Waiswa Mufumbira and the Kasangati LC III Chairperson and took them into custody.
The men were allegedly driving in Kyagulanyi’s vehicle when police intercepted them at Kasangati and drove them to the police station before locking them up without explanation.
While Bobi Wine and his People Power faction was cleared to start consultation meetings by both the Electoral commission and police, it is alleged that he did not follow all rules stipulated under Section 103 of the Public Order Management Act.
According to police, the Kyadondo East MP did not provide them with a letter from patrons of the venue they meant to hold their event today. However, Joel Ssenyonyi the People Power Spokesperson said they had a letter from a Reverand father who gave them a letter indicating that the venue was free of charge.
In Gulu where the faction was to hold another consultation tomorrow, the venue owner too cancelled the event and refunded their money. Kyagulanyi said 2020 is a year to make decisions that will change this country as they will not have time to campaign in 2021.
