Two people have died on L. Albert after a boat they were sailing on capsized. The fishermen drowned after their boat was hit by strong winds at 8pm on Tuesday in Hoima district.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson identified the deceased only as Owonda, 50 and Dickson, 42 who were attached to Nana landing site in Tonya parish Buseruka sub county Hoima district.
According to witnesses, one of the fishermen on the same boat only identified as Watu survived after he managed to swim till he was rescued by other fishermen.
The three fishermen were reportedly returning from fishing before their boat was hit by a strong wave that eventually forced it to capsize during a heavy downpour that lasted for close to two hours.
Police has teamed up with fishermen this morning to search for bodies of the victims.
Water levels on L. Albert have also increased and some homes on its shores have already been submerged, with more than 100 homesteads affected in the last few weeks.
