Shock has gripped residents of Khabuku cell in Nangako town council, Bududa after one of their own and a primary teacher, 54-year-old Aloysius Khatondi committed suicide by hanging.
Khatondi has been a teacher at Bubungi Primary school. He was found hanging on a tree behind his home on Sunday morning by neighbors.
According to Daison Mukuwa the area LC1 chairperson, the teacher’s death has shocked many people in the area.
However, one of Khatondi's neighbors says the teacher who was highly respected was facing difficulties with the family ranging from accumulated debts, feeding and looking after the family following the lock down.
The deceased also complained of low pay which could not facilitate his family.
Rogers Taitika the Elgon region Police spokesman says investigations into the incident have commenced and a postmortem has already been carried out confirming the death was by hanging.
