28 Ugandans tested positive for COVID19 on Wednesday, with 7 of them being contacts to truck drivers who had tested positive for the disease a while ago.
The other 21 new cases were of truck drivers who entered the country through Elegu point of entry from South Sudan.
According to the ministry of health, the 7 contacts were already under quarantine by the time of testing.
Uganda currently has 281 confirmed cases of COVID19 and 69 recoveries.
Also, 7 foreign truck drivers who tested positive were handed over to their countries of origin. These include; 4 Tanzanians, 1 Eritrean, 1 Congolese, and 1 Burundian.
1,456 truck drivers were tested at different points of entry, while 548 samples were tested from community and contacts making a total of 2,004 samples.
The cases are increasing as the country also eases the lockdown. President Yoweri Museveni in his last address promised to lift lockdown on public transport on 4th June which is Thursday next week. Currently, only Ugandans with Private cars are allowed to move as well as those on foot and cyclists.
Boda boda riders are only allowed to carry cargo.
