Authorities have quarantined 69 people at Magamaga Military barracks after coming into contact with a COVID-19 patient.
These include civilians and UPDF soldiers who interacted with the patient that went to the barracks on Tuesday to nurse her husband who suffered a mental breakdown and was admitted in the barrack’s health facility.
However, the patient informed the force’s health team that she had been staying in Bombo military barracks, only for intelligence reports later to indicate that although her place of abode is Bombo, the call for nursing the sick husband found her in Singo Barracks where she had stayed for close to 15 days.
The patient is currently receiving treatment at the Jinja regional referral hospital isolation centre.
According to Capt. George Musinguzi, the UPDF spokesperson in Busoga sub-region, the contacts have been grouped basing on their closeness with the victim during her stay at the barracks in order to ease monitoring by the standby health team stationed in the barracks premises.
They have also erected different tents to create enough space for quarantining the suspects with all the necessary facilities and prevent daily interaction between persons in the barracks and the rest of the community.
UPDF leadership has contacted the ministry of health team to take samples from the suspects within this week.
