Samuel Kinywa Wangware, 35, a resident of Mathira in Njeri, Kenya, was on Saturday found dead inside the cabin of his truck at Busitema revenue checkpoint in Busia District had no coronavirus.
According to the health officials, the samples from Wangware have tested negative for COVID-19. The deceased had parked his truck registration number KAT 578T at Busitema checkpoint while heading to Nairobi from Kampala and was awaiting clearance to cross the border, when he died.
His colleagues claim Wangware complained of fever on Friday evening.
Results released on Monday by the Ministry of Health indicate that two separate tests were carried out on the deceased and found that he was negative for the disease. However, the officials are yet to capture the real cause of his death.
"The ministry conducted investigations into his sudden death which revealed he entered Uganda via Malaba Point of Entry on May 31, 2020, with a negative COVID-19 test. A sample was taken off his remains by a surveillance team and found negative. The ministry would like to reiterate that to date Uganda has not registered any COVID-19 related death," a statement from Dr Henry Mwebesa, the Director-General of Health Services reads.
On Sunday, 9 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed. This brings the number of confirmed cases to 701.
According to Dr Mwebesa, 5 of the confirmed cases were from alerts and contacts within the communities of Kyotera, Tororo, Amuru and Entebbe, while another four cases were of truck drivers who entered through the Elegu and Malaba points of entry.
